Thirteen hours of music, fifteen concerts, thirty-five artists and a single venue. This coming Saturday 15 September will see the CCCB fill up with a variety of displays of hip-hop culture. Now in its 9th edition, the Hipnotik Festival is offering concerts, competitions, freestyling, dancing, talks, graphic designs and solidarity activities at different settings within the venue
A year on and the Hipnotik Festival is coming to the CCCB to present the various languages of hip-hop culture. It boasts a thirteen-hour programme offering not just music but dance, presentations, graphic design and solidarity activities.
This year's festival features the best in rap and dancehall on the Spanish scene. A total of thirty-five artists will be performing there, notably Swan Fyahbwoy, Sharif, Rapvívoros, Rosa Rosario and the Hipnotik Show of Emcees, along with Mala Rodríguez, Tremendo, Shotta and Rapsusklei, among others.
It will also be making room for the best in dancehall, with DanceHall Xplosion and Fyahbwoy, who will be presenting his latest album, Extremely Flammable. What's more, Fresh Daily will be performing too, representing the new boom in rap in the US, along with famous DJs such as Chavez & Stone, Chema AMA, Big Mic and Dr. Faust.
Besides concerts, the festival programme also includes freestyling in the shape of the final of the Hipnotik MC Battle, as well as eight separate hip-hop dancing competitions.
A solidarity festival
Meanwhile, Hipnotik has joined up with DJs against Hunger to create a website that enables people to make food donations, explaining what is needed and giving information on collection points.
This year's event will see Food Bank collection points at the festival's entrance and exits. Everyone taking part will receive a euro discount at the box office if they bring a food donation.
Last but not least, the event will also feature the Wacom Graphik Battle, a competition aimed at artists who create digital graffiti and a talk entitled "Entrepreneurs in the world of hip-hop".
